Exploring Potential and Creating Connections: employU’s Rosen Career Camp

Exploring Potential and Creating Connections: employU’s Rosen Career Camp

This summer students had the chance to do more than learn while they earned. They were able to immerse themselves in the world of hospitality in Orlando. At the Rosen Career Camp, organized by employU and hosted at UCF Rosen College, 29 students had an unforgettable experience delving into job prospects and uncovering their strengths.

The camp focused on more than gaining industry skills. Nurturing personal growth and fostering an inclusive atmosphere was also an important aspect of the camp. Students quickly bonded over shared meals and gradually formed meaningful connections that surpassed differences in backgrounds and skills. Demonstrating the importance of this aspect of the camp’s values, a student with autism who was initially reserved found his confidence through support from peers and mentors. His insightful questions and mathematical skills brought a perspective to conversations highlighting the camp’s dedication to embracing communication, unique abilities, and different perspectives.

Students started each day of the camp by immersing themselves in aspects of the hospitality industry through sessions led by experts in the field. Exploring a range of career options, from hotels to theme parks, to restaurants and event planning, the experiences they gained extended beyond typical classroom learning. They also attended hands-on sessions focused on creating resumes, filling out job forms, and mastering interview skills to prepare for their transition into the workforce.

The students also had the opportunity to visit well-established industry locations, including Fantasy World Resort, Hilton Orlando, and The Ritz Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes. Students actively engaged with managers, human resources experts, and chefs who commended their conduct and insightful inquiries. The interactions they had not only expanded their knowledge of the industry but also boosted their confidence in navigating different professional settings.

Highlighting the camp’s focus on fostering self-expression, the graduation ceremony provided students with the opportunity to display their unique talents, from rap performances to solving a Rubiks Cube.

employU’s Rosen Career Camps went beyond job training; it instilled a sense of self-advocacy and community among participants. By promoting teamwork and positivity the camp encouraged students to speak up for themselves confidently and support each other along the way. Apart from learning skills for the hospitality sector they formed lasting bonds, uncovered talents, and embraced inclusivity. By the end of the camp, these students carry with them a newfound purpose and potential ready to leave their mark on the world.
