Clayton Lawson

Position: Leads Skill Instructor Project Search

Originally from New York/New Jersey, I moved to Port Saint Lucie seven years ago to be closer to my parents. In 2019, I graduated from Indian River State College with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services. I am currently pursuing my M.S. in Clinical Psychology. My Master’s thesis sheds light on the challenges deaf people face
in mental health due to having to rely on an American Sign Language interpreter to interact with their therapist. My lifelong aspiration is to become a clinical psychologist so I can provide emotional independence for the deaf population in a mental health setting. I believe that being fluent in American Sign Language will ease the task of communication for my future clients.

In my downtime, I enjoy playing basketball, baking, reading, and going to the beach. Some of my favorite books are The Hidden Messages in Water, The Alchemist, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter. As a deaf individual, I’ve overcome all types of adversity in my life and used what others believed was a hindrance to my advantage. I look forward to working with these gifted students at Project Search, and I cannot wait to give them the tools to unlock their potential!
