Tara Gomes

Position: Youth Employment Specialist

Hello, I’m Tara,  a  Senior Job Coach with employU Transition Services. I was born in MA, and raised in the Ocean State of RI.  I relocated to Lake County FL in 2017 to be closer to family. My passion for working with others started with peer mentoring my high school classmates with Special Olympics and Unified Sports.

After graduation, I worked as a DSP for a group home agency with individuals of various abilities assisting in independent daily living skills, Job Exploration, and Case Management. I took a few years off from Human Services to obtain a degree in Visual Communications and worked as a graphic artist for a promotional product company. Although I loved creating art every day, I found myself missing that passion I had for working with children and adults.

Found my passion again! For the next 16 yrs. with a great company. I had the privilege of various positions as a Transition Specialist, Behavior Specialist, Home Based Therapeutic Services, Respite Care, and working with the Deaf and HOH.  In 2011 I was offered an amazing opportunity to work as a 1:1 Behavior Specialist at Rhode Island School for the Deaf and HOH, here I received my Para Pro and later became a job coach for their Transitional School Service program.

Moving to Fkorida in 2017, I found myself back in the classroom as a student earning my CNA, Home Health, and Med Tech Licenses doing in-home private care and Hospice. Grateful for the amazing humans I had the pleasure of getting to know and learning from in their later years. In 2019 I had the opportunity to join the employU family as a part-time Transition Job Coach and 2yrs later accepting the position of a full-time Senior Job Coach. I love assisting individuals with their passion and career goals and watching them thrive.
