employU’s certified specialists and Job Coaches are skilled in working with customers at all levels of ability.
employU’s Discovery program is designed for clients who require more information on how their abilities can be successfully applied to a career path. During this process, a Discovery Specialist will spend one-on-one time with the client to find career options that align with the client’s skill set, interests, schedule, and ideal worksite.
After a referral is received, an initial face-to-face meeting at the client’s place of residence is scheduled. During this meeting, the Discovery Specialist will observe the client’s environment and daily routine. The specialist will then create multiple activities within the client’s interests in order to explore different strengths and challenges. This information is used to create a detailed analysis and determine the ideal field, job duties, and worksite environment for the client. If needed, a Discovery Specialist may coordinate with a business to create customized employment. This blueprint for success, a customized plan, is created for every individual to ensure the proper supports are in place.
Job Coaching and Partnering with A.P.D.
employU partners with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (A.P.D.) A.P.D. supports people who have development disabilities by working with local communities and providers. employU provides additional services to customers who qualify through A.P.D. (For more information on how to apply, contact A.P.D. here.) There is a waitlist for services, so it is advised to start the process as soon as possible. If assistance with the application is needed, employU may be able to help.
Once on the waitlist, some customers may receive benefits from employU through the EEP Program. employU participates in the “Enhanced Employment Project” (EEP) for those in need of job coaching services while on the waitlist. Additionally, for those that are in APD’s CDC+ status, employU is approved to work as a coaching provider.
Customers who have waiver funding available to them through APD or are on the APD Waiver waitlist may be eligible to receive no-cost coaching services if they have already received employment services through Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). If currently employed, support may be available to help maintain a current position.
Once off the waitlist, a customer will be assigned an A.P.D. Support Coordinator who will assist in developing an ibudget, a pool of funding that is determined by an individual’s needs. Additionally, the Support Coordinator could refer their customer to employU for supported employment job coaching. For customers with the Medicaid Waiver iBudget program, employU can provide extended services with A.P.D for continuity and long term coaching support.
This type of job coaching is designed to address issues that may be occurring on the job and/or improve a customer’s skills, speed, and confidence. Often this support is all that is required to ensure a successful employment opportunity.
