Youth Paid Internships Program

employU’s Paid Work-Based Learning program generates opportunities to gain real work experience. Participants can earn $15/hour while learning and honing skills within the workplace. We partner with a variety of local businesses to offer different learning experiences for each student. When a student first enrolls in our program, an employU specialist meets with them one-on-one to develop a customized plan based on their preferences.

The job coach accompanies the student on their first day of work and checks in on them regularly throughout the program duration to ensure adequate support is provided. At the conclusion of each On the Job Training, students have gained valuable experiences, developed solid work references, and built strong connections for future employment. Each experience averages between one to two months and students may repeat their participation as desired during their eligibility period.

During Work-Based Learning Experiences, also known as On-the-Job-Trainings (OJT), students will:​

• Be matched with the experience based on interests, travel radius, schedule, and age​.
• Gain real work experience.
• Interview for the positions with the support of a job coach​.
• Earn money while working in 1 to 2 month experiences​.
• Students can do multiple work experiences to gain soft skills and transferrable hard skills, build their resume, and make connections in the community.
• Explore industries they are interested in to see what fits them the best.

INDUSTRY-BASED WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS

employU partners with a variety of industry-specific associations to offer customers vocational training and internship opportunities. Many industries – such as manufacturing, construction, hospitality,and more – are in great need of skilled employees and are willing to offer training and certification opportunities to build their labor force. By participating in these special programs, customers develop specific job-related skills, can receive an OSHA 10 certification which teaches safe practices for highly skilled positions, and be ready to pursue a career path with little to no student loan debt.

Construction and Trades

Students can gain first-hand experience in specialized trades such as electrical, plumbing, and homebuilding, and may even receive an OSHA 10 certification. Upon completion, some students may enter apprenticeship programs upon graduating high school!

Manufacturing

There is a significant need for skilled employees ​with average annual earnings in this field is $89,536. Students can explore a wide array of positions from assembly to high-tech product testing and specialized product development​.

Hospitality

Lucrative tourism industry jobs are always in high demand​. From full-service hotels to restaurants, get hands-on training in a range of areas including culinary, reception, customer service, housekeeping, and maintenance.

Retail

Discover opportunities in all aspects of the industry. From tagging, sorting and stocking to building customer services skills, there is so much to explore in retail.
