Creating a Successful Path for Youth, Together: Ready For Life Brevard

After seeing the challenges young adults face when they age out of the foster care system in Brevard County, Pamela Bress, the then senior staff attorney at Brevard County Legal Aid, decided to create a solution. As a center that serves young adults between the ages of 15 and 25, Ready for Life Brevard provides a range of services to the community including help with mental health, employment, and housing. These critical services provide a well-rounded network of support to help set these youth on a path to independent living.

Connecting young adults with various organizations, Ready for Life serves as a hub of resources for young adults looking for assistance in all areas of life. To assist with access to affordable housing vouchers, The Housing Authority of Brevard County collaborated with Ready for Life as a solution to the housing issues many young adults transitioning out of the foster care system often face. And now, employU is partnering with Ready for Life Brevard as a resource for young adults looking to prepare for and start a successful, sustainable career path.

Through our partnership, young adults in Brevard County will be able to learn a variety of workforce skills that assist in building resumes, interviewing, job searching, and career exploration. Pre-Employment Training classes prepare them to enter the job market while work-based learning experiences are a way for them to gain valuable, hands-on work experience and earn industry-specific certifications while getting paid. Permanent job placement and job coaching are also available, providing a path for finding a sustainable career, as well as implementing a successful transition into a new position.
