employU Partners with Burlington to Provide Employment Exploration Opportunities for Students 

Nonprofit disability employment service agency and retail giant come together to help students gain insight into future career paths 

Workplace exploration and experience can be priceless tools for students getting ready to make the transition into adulthood. Recognizing this, employU and Burlington are partnering to give students opportunities to explore career paths, gain transferable skills, and take their first steps into the workforce through work-based learning experiences. This collaboration tailors various employment-related opportunities for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) or 504 Plans to build confidence and skills to leverage in their journey after high school. 

“Burlington is one of our new, amazing community partners and we are very excited about the fantastic opportunities it will provide to our students. At the moment, we are working with five locations with three being in the Orlando area, one in Kissimmee, and one in Jacksonville,” states employU Transition Program Director, Lindy Sinka.  

Not only do students learn hard skills that can be used in the retail industry specifically, but they also learn and strengthen soft skills that can be used in various industries and circumstances throughout their lifetime. Lindy explains, “We have students working at all of the locations and they are building their communication, collaboration, time management, conflict resolution, and work ethics to help prepare them for their careers.  They are also building hard skills like stocking, sorting, customer service, and inventory control.  These are amazing opportunities to help students build a host of soft and hard skills to help them grow, build work maturity, and blossom into an amazing group of young people that employers will be fighting to have as employees at their organizations.” 

Fostering the growth and success of students transitioning into the workforce, employU looks forward to providing more opportunities for students across the state with Burlington’s partnership. Lindy expresses gratitude for this relationship explaining, “We appreciate this wonderful opportunity for our students, the in-store support of the Burlington team, and look forward to a long-standing partnership with Burlington locations across the state.”
