A Life Changing Experience: Joey’s Story

As a long-time employU client, Joey has been able to grow and take significant steps in his career pathway over the last few years.  We’ve had the pleasure of being able to watch his hard work pay off each step of the way and have even featured him on the employU social media accounts as an inspiration for us all.  Joey is a great example of how far our clients can truly go by taking advantage of the many services employU has to offer.

Joey’s journey with employU began with the Transition Youth Program. During this time Joey gained varied work experience through several on-the job trainings (OJTs).  Through this program, he worked at ABC Medical, Habitat for Humanity, Marshall’s, Longhorn Steakhouse, and the Humane Society, among others.

After excelling in employU’s Transition Youth Program, Joey graduated to the Adult Program where he participated in another on-the-job training.  Joey’s Employment Specialist, Susan Marino, was looking for new challenges for Joey.  Susan saw that Joey had met and exceeded goals in the past and wanted to make sure she was giving him the opportunity to reach his full potential. After speaking to Aapex Electric’s owner, Christy Romano, Susan knew she had found a great opportunity for Joey. Joey began an on-the-job training with Aapex Electric shortly after. His duties included filing invoices, stocking shelves, unloading trucks, and accompanying delivery staff.  He even went to a company convention to represent the business and do some PR.  Joey proved that he was willing and able to step-up to any task asked of him.

Recently, Joey completed his eight-week on-the-job training with Aapex Electric and was hired on permanently as a Warehouse Clerk and Marketing Assistant.  Christy is so impressed by Joey that she is sponsoring him in his next career step –an electrician apprenticeship at Indian River State College. employU is proud to have been a part of Joey’s path to success thus far and looks forward to seeing what the future holds for him!
